Junior MasterChef Australia is an Australian competitive cooking game show. It is a spin-off of MasterChef Australia, itself an adaptation of the Britishshow MasterChef, and features contestants aged 8 to 12. The first season of the show began production in July 2010 and included 50 contestants. Over 5,000 children from around the nation auditioned for the series.
Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston returned alongside new judge, Anna Gare. Callum Hann has also been involved in the series.
In contrast to prior series, Junior MasterChef Australia is produced by Shine Australia. The promo was seen during the final episode of MasterChef Australia (Season 2). The series premiered on Sunday, 12 September 2010.
Changes
In the Junior series, contestants will not be eliminated every week, though four will be eliminated at a time once the top 12 is decided.
Every eliminated contestant receives a range of prizes.
Seasons
Season 1
Production of a junior version of the show was initially suggested in October 2009. The first series of the show, featuring 8 to 12 year old contestants, was filmed after the second series of MasterChef Australia and began airing September 12, 2010 on Ten. In contrast to prior series, Junior MasterChef Australiawas produced by Shine Australia. Shine Australia to produce Junior Masterchef. It has been announced that the program will return for a second series in 2011.
Season 2
The format of MasterChef was announced during up fronts to be returning to the TEN Network in 2011. Junior MasterChef was officially renewed on 15 November 2010 due to strong ratings, to return for a second season in 2011.
